Brief History: Nora Elise Fleming was born April 18, 1983 to
Thomas and
Julia Fleming in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. She was the second of two children, the first being her brother
Colin in 1975. Her parents were both bakers and were the owners of Fleming's Bakery in Stevens Point. Nora grew up protected by both her parents and her older brother, occasionally to the point of feeling stifled. She knew they loved her, though, and that was what mattered.
As a kid, Nora was the quiet one in the class. She had friends, more than a few, but was almost always at the edge of the group. It wasn't that she wasn't included, because she was. She just preferred to float from group to group, being around as many people as possible. She wasn't exactly a social butterfly, but she
was easy to get along with. She had few enemies in school, and few people who even just actively disliked her. For the most part, either she was well liked or she just wasn't noticed very much. She was an above average student, pulling down a solid B average all through high school, with the exceptions being As in her English and Home Ec classes.
After high school, Nora went on to college, earning a Bachelor's in General Studies. Not exactly an exciting degree, but she didn't need exciting -- she'd been working at the bakery ever since she could remember and had never wanted to do anything other than work there. Unfortunately, in the summer of 2007 she became more than just an assistant manager. She became the owner when her parents died in what was assumed to be a home invasion gone wrong. Her brother, who was by now a police detective in Milwaukee, believed otherwise but could find no proof. Nora only cared that they were gone and told her brother to just leave it alone.
It was losing her parents that brought out a particular ability of Nora's -- her empathy. Where before it'd been nothing more than being able to sense when someone was in a certain mood or if they needed something, it had now grown to where she could guess what someone wanted or needed before they even voiced it; this came in handy in terms of serving her customers' needs but was otherwise something Nora wasn't particularly happy about. She's learned to use her abilities but at the bare minimum needed to keep a focus. Most of the time she just pretends that they don't even exist. It was during this time that she met the Winchester brothers on one of their travels, albeit briefly, when they stopped in for breakfast. Fifteen minutes later they were on their way and a few minutes after that, they were forgotten.
She did the best she could with the bakery, but the memories were too much. She sold the shop to a family friend and moved to Kansas where she hoped she would be able to make a fresh start.
